It is really interesting to watch a packet trace of an NT or WIN95 doing
a ping or traceroute of a machine on the same network. With a five
second time out MS host sends out UDP packets to port 137 4 or so times and
then declares a timeout WAY before 5 seconds is up. Really weird stuff.

I haven't heard of any plans to response to UDP port 137 (WINS, I
think). It would be nice to respond so that MS hosts would work
correctly. I t would also be nice if MS hosts worked correctly.

If you feel obnoxious, make a support call to Microsoft and open a bug on
ping and tracroute! :)
