Portmaster to BBS

How would I go about hooking a portmaster to a BBS via null modem cable
so I can telnet to it? I've got it "working" so far, but it does not work
perfectly. For one thing, characters typed are not echoed back over the
serial link. And I would also like to be able to assign an IP address
to the serial port so I don't have to specify a port when telnetting.
