The SPEC for RS-232 states 50 feet max. That is for unshielded,
non-twisted-pair cable. You can get much more length out of twisted-pair
cable. I have run 110K (ASYNC) sessions over CAT-5 (unshielded) cable
>200 feet no problems. YMMV, etc.
