We used the Hayes Optima for about 3 months, they just would not work for
us. We went through several hours of tech support with Hayes, who were
extremly helpful, or at least put in an honest effort. We did ROM
upgrades, which solved alot of the problems we had with these modems, but
still, in St Louis the USR's performance was leaps and bounds ahead of
the Optima and was $80 a modem less than the Optima even with the SysOp
pricing. Best bet it to buy a couple of Optimas on the SysOp program and
test them for yourself. What didn't work for us may be the best modem
for your situation. THe Optima's were very nice modems, and Hayes
Support was tops, the modem just does not like the St Louis phone lines,
or lack of quality phone lines.
