PortMaster MIB Information

Product

The Lucent Technologies PortMaster products and the administrative component, PMVisionTM implement multi-protocol carrier capacity WAN access concentrator. The Remote Access Concentrator products enables public carriers, ISPs and major network providers to offer a variety of services such as dial-up, V.90/K56Flex/V.34 modem, ISDN, and T1 (E1) or T3 (E3)-based leased line and Frame Relay connections.

The Portmaster products are developed by the Lucent Technologies Remote Access Business Unit.

MIB Specification Overview

The PortMaster 4 MIB is written to conform to SMIv1 (RFCs 1212 and 1213). The private MIB for the product describes the data for configuration, fault, performance, security and accounting management:
  • Chassis MIB
  • Configuration management (equipment, physical interfaces and logical interfaces)
  • Fault management (fault detection and fault isolation traps)
  • Performance management (interfaces)
  • Security management (MIB access control)
  • Administration management (read-write community and trap community)
The products also support MIB II objects and the enterprise specific traps provide information about several alarm conditions that may be disabled or enabled. The traps are generated as SNMP v1 traps.

The PortMaster 4 SNMP agent will consist of a multi-lingual Master Agent (supporting SNMP v1, v2 and v3 protocols) and sub-agents with AgentX interface with the master agent to handle different sub-trees in the MIB. The Master Agent will listen on UDP port 161 for SNMP PDUs. The Master Agent will process the PDUs and forward them to the appropriate sub-agents. The sub-agents are responsible for processing the data. The Master Agent and the sub-agents can operate asynchronously. The sub-agents in the SNMP software can dynamically register/de-register to provide access/deny portions of the MIB.
