ISDN Office Router AP

Questions and Answers

Q. What are the primary applications for this new Office Router?
A. The ISDN Office Router AP provides telecommuters, home office users, and branch offices with secure and reliable routed ISDN connections to corporate LANs and the Internet. The product features a single analog (POTS) port which allows traditional analog devices such as telephones, modems, and fax machines to communicate over an ISDN line. Users can simultaneously use any of the above devices on one ISDN B channel while surfing the Internet or performing data transfers on the other.

Q. How many simultaneous voice based calls will the ISDN Office Router AP support?
A. The product supports one voice (fax, modem, or telephone) connection at a time. The product does support a simultaneous voice and data call or two simultaneous data connections to different locations.

Q. How many analog devices can be connected to the analog port?
A. The product supports up to three analog devices off of the analog port. This can be achieved by using a 3-way telephone splitter.

Q. Can I make or accept a voice-based call over the ISDN line when both ISDN B channels are being used for a data call?
A. The ISDN Office Router AP allows users to make an outbound voice based call when both ISDN B channels are in use for data traffic (Multilink PPP connection). The Office Router will temporarily drop one B channel to allow the user to make a voice call and automatically restore the dual B channel connection when the voice call is terminated. For inbound voice calls, the ISDN Office Router AP supports "additional call offering," which allows the product to cue an incoming call while both B channels are in use. In this case, the Office Router will disconnect one B channel of an MP data call to allow an incoming voice call. This feature is only supported by the National ISDN-1 switch type. Your ISDN line must be provisioned to support additional call offering for this feature to work on the Office Router.

Q. Does the ISDN Office Router AP support data compression?
A. Yes, the product supports the Stac LZS and MS-Stac data compression standards and is interoperable with any Lucent product and third party product that supports these standards.

Q. Will the original ISDN Office Router still be available?
A. Yes, the ISDN Office Router without the analog port (OR-U and OR-ST) is still available.

Q. What are the differences between the new ISDN Office Router AP and the original ISDN Office Router?
A. The new ISDN Office Router AP runs the same Lucent ComOS and is configured just as the original ISDN Office Router. The new product adds the analog port functionality and increases the on-board RAM from 1 MB to 2 MB.

Q. What is the port labeled 'S0' on the back of the unit?
A. This port is an asynchronous port that supports up to 115.2 Kbps throughput. Users can connect an external V.34 or K56Flex modem to use the port for InterNetworking Systems or dial-up routing to a non-ISDN site, as a console or remote management port, or as a modem back-up to the ISDN line.

Q. What is the product's list price? When is it available?
A. The U interface version of the ISDN Office Router AP (OR-U-AP) is priced at $945 (US) and will be available in January 1998 through Lucent's authorized sales channels. The ST version of the product (OR-ST-AP) is also $945 (US) and will be available in February 1998 through authorized international channel partners.
