PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers

Product Overview

With the addition of the PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers, now offers an entire family of routing products that fit almost any wide area network scenario. The Office Router family provides a broad range of features including Frame Relay and leased line services with speeds up to T1/E1 (1.544/2.048 Mbps), Internet access, firewall filtering, and dial back up. The Office Routers also contain an asynchronous port to extend connectivity even further to remote PC users. And based on the popular, Internet proven, Lucent ComOS software engine, customers can now experience the same high performance and reliability that over 1500 Internet Service Providers have enjoyed for years.

The new PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers are full featured IP/IPX routers supporting Frame Relay, leased line, Switched 56, or ISDN (using an external Terminal adapter) routers. They have one Ethernet port (AUI and 10BaseT), one synchronous port, and one asynchronous port (115.2Kbps).

Key Applications

The PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers are ideal for businesses of any size requiring 56Kbps to T1/E1 speed for Internet access. In addition, the Office Routers are excellent choices for connecting geographically dispersed sites with each other and to larger central sites. The asynchronous port can be used for remote user dial-in access and dial back-up for the synchronous line.

Key Features and Benefits

High performance routing for a broad set of Internet applications

The PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers' high speed Internet access increases overall employee productivity. Faster data retrieval offers more people rapid access to valuable Internet information and resources.

The PortMaster T1/E1 and 384K Synchronous Office Routers are the latest additions to Lucent's PortMaster Office Router Family.

The right solution for almost any office environment

With these two new PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers, small and large sites can choose the product that best meets their requirements. The T1/E1 accommodates even the most bandwidth hungry environments and larger offices. The 384K is designed and priced for more moderate Internet use and small to mid-sized sites that want high performance but don't require T1/E1 speeds.

Internet proven

has over 1500 Internet Service Providers as customers. products have been developed and time-tested through years of servicing the Internet market. With the Synchronous Office Routers, customers can rest assured that they are investing in stable, reliable, and secure Internet connectivity.

Industry proven "firewall filtering" security

routers are acknowledged leaders in Internet security. These routers will provide the site with advanced firewall filtering, including filtering inbound and outbound traffic, and the capability to track 0 traffic.

Asynchronous Port provides redundancy and dial-up access

The Office Routers offer a versatile, full-featured asynchronous port that increases network reliability by providing an additional analog or ISDN PPP dial back up link and a secure point of entry for a remote network administrator. In addition, the asynchronous port enables individuals to gain remote dial up access into both LAN and Internet resources. And, of course, RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial In User Service) is supported--providing centralized dial-in password authentication, authorization, and accounting.

Will scale with network requirements, no "fork-lift upgrades"

The Synchronous Office Routers are scalable. They can be used as an ISDN router (utilizing its V.25bis capability with an external ISDN terminal adapter) or a 56K router and then migrated up to higher speed Frame Relay or leased line circuits. In fact, by utilizing the unique asynchronous port, Synchronous Office Routers can even enable a site to initially route traffic over low-speed, low-cost analog circuits and move up to higher speed services as required. The units ship with all the software required for these diverse WAN capabilities.

ChoiceNet Included

The Synchronous Office Routers support ChoiceNet, the Lucent invented centralized filtering technology that enables corporate and school networks to flexibly and efficiently choose the sites, applications, and services that they wish to have available to their users.

Reliability and easy management

The PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers use Lucent's proven ComOS, the software technology used in all Lucent's IRX Routers and PortMaster Communications Servers. The Office Routers are fully manageable by Lucent's PMconsole GUI management utility (included free of charge). The Office Routers can also be managed via a locally-attached console, telnet, and SNMP.

IPX support for Novell NetWare internetworking

For NetWare based sites, the PortMaster Office Routers offer exceptional NetWare connectivity supporting IPX routing, IPX SAP filtering, and Novell keep-alive spoofing.

Cost Effective

Synchronous Office Routers are full-featured, high-performance, competitively priced products.

Compact form factor

The Office Routers are low profile packages with internal power supplies (removing the need for an external power supply or "brick").

Product Availability

The PortMaster Synchronous Office Routers are now available for both U.S. and international use through authorized Lucent resellers.
